Be Fucking Awesome
Whats Your Latest Fucking Awesome Deed? That is what BeFuckingAwesome is asking. With a name that you will instantly remember and a nice colourful design, the site is impressive on a first look. To understand it, basically think Twitter for accomplishments. So instead of encouraging tweets like “I am eating a ham sandwhich”, BFA aims to get people to only talk about good things they have done. Such as “I helped an old woman cross the street”.
When a person “tweets” their accomplishment, others can rate it with a sliding bar (shown in the pic above). The tweet than gets an FAvalue. It seems that BFA will largely be focused on the community not to fuck it up. i.e. only give good ratings to accomplishments and not random rubbish.
Some things I instantly thought of when I came across the site:
- Not everyone likes to brag about themselves.
- People aren’t going to visit BFA rather than Twitter to tweet their accomplishment
- The word “fucking” will stop children from using the service as well as a lot of adults.
Luckily, the BFA team have all this covered! A new feature that lets you tweet the accomplishment of another is in talks at the moment. I think this would be a great feature if it linked to their account and they get the FAvalue points from it.
It is possible to link BFA up with Facebook and Twitter so when you use the #bfa tag it takes your accomplishment and imports it into their system.
An exact same site without the f-word in it has already been developed and they are just deciding when and if to launch it.
I predict that BFA will have a good-sized community but will never become very popular. It is a well executed site and has an okay (not very original) idea behind it, but the concept just isn’t that interesting since there are many other outlets to shout about your accomplishments.
